Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases, Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, University of Pisa (Italy)

His research focuses on the clinical and molecular epidemiology of infections with multi-drug resistant (MDR) organisms, with the intent of translation of knowledge into optimal prevention and treatment of these infections. He has participated as principal investigator in national and international clinical studies on anti-infective agents, and has published several studies on endocarditis, bacteremia, pneumonia, bone and joint infections, and other areas of interest of Infectious Diseases. He is author of original articles published on leading journals of infectious diseases and clinical medicine including Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Clinical Microbiology and Infection and many others.

To date he published more than 130 indexed articles, with an overall impact factor of more than 700 points, 4024 overall citations, and H-index of 34 (calculated by Scopus, accessed 1st of September 2020). Co-recipient in 2014 of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) Emanuel Wolinsky Award for the better article published on 2013 su Clinical Infectious Diseases (Clin Infect Dis 2013;56:1261-8.). The same paper has been considered as the most influencing paper of 2013 from the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (Am J Health-Syst Pharm. 2014; 71:e119- 33). He is co-author of the guidelines endorsed by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) on the management of multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria in hospitalized patients. Member of the board of the Italian Society of Infectious Diseases (SIMIT). Chair of the board of the ESCMID study group for infections in the elderly (ESGIE). He has been invited speaker in several National and International conferences and congresses. He serves as Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases at Faculty of Medicine of the University Pisa (Italy).
