Dr Elena Breidenstein

Director, Anti-Infectives Research at Summit Therapeutics

Elena has specialised in the field of antimicrobial resistance for over 10 years and is currently Director of Anti-Infectives Research at Summit Therapeutics. Working in academia and industry, Elena has extensive experience in project management, including developing and executing effective research plans. She is the project lead for Summit’s SMT026738 programme targeting Enterobacteriaceae.

Elena earned her PhD in microbiology from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) in the lab of Prof. Robert Hancock in 2012. From 2012-2014, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Pasteur Institute (Paris, France) in the lab of Prof. Patrice Courvalin. In 2015, Elena joined Discuva Ltd, which was subsequently acquired by Summit Therapeutics in December 2017.

Elena has contributed to several books and papers related to antimicrobial resistance throughout her career.
