Dr Hellyer is a Senior Clinical Fellow and Honorary Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at Newcastle University. His research focuses on improving antibiotic stewardship for critically ill patients. He has taken a number of approaches to tackling this unmet need including evaluation of novel diagnostics for ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAPrapid), using immune phenotyping to develop a precision-medicine approach to antibiotic use (RISC-sepsis) and more broadly addressing antibiotic durations in critical care.
