Nelianne Verkaik MD, PhD, is a clinical microbiologist and clinical pharmacologist at the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She is chair of the SWAB (the ‘Dutch’ BSAC) working group on Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance. She is interested in antimicrobial resistance and treatment of difficult-to-treat infections. Because of the emergence of multidrug-resistant micro-organisms in patients from Ukraine, a project was started in collaboration with the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, to collect phenotypic susceptibility data and discuss implications for clinical practice. This project will be presented here.
