Research Fellow, University of Leeds

A Senior Research Fellow at the Healthcare Associated Infection (research group (University of Leeds), my research focuses on the gut microbiome, namely how antibiotics or food supplements can affect diversity and composition of the human microbiota, impacting the proliferation of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) bacteria.

By combining next-generation genomics and metabolomics with a triple stage in vitro model of the human colon, I assess the conditions that allow AMR organisms to proliferate and how we can modulate the microbiota to reduce AMR carriage. Since August 2021, I have been a genomics consultant at UKHSA to aid the epidemiological surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 through genome sequencing.
