We're excited to announce that the E-bug Educators Training course, developed by BSAC & Public Health England, is now available in Welsh. It is a free health education resource that provides fun and accessible learning for students in the classroom and/or at home, on the subject of reducing the spread of infections and antibiotic resistance in the UK.

Public Health Wales have been working with e-bug to develop this Welsh language e-learning course which provides relevant information and statistics based on the population of Wales.  It can be used to educate children and young people about the spread of infections, how to prevent and treat infections and about the responsible use of antibiotics, in the hope of reducing AMR.  This course was developed by Public Health England (PHE) and the British Association for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC), for teachers/educators, and for other people working with children or young people.

The course has been designed specifically for welsh-language primary and secondary school educators, as well as those who lead community groups targeting children and young people (aged 4-18).  The course can be used to support parents, carers and educators to teach children using the e-Bug resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The course might also be of interest to healthcare professionals who work with children, for example, school nurses. Local authority or government officials involved in the management of infections and improving antibiotic use within communities, might also find this course useful.

This free educational resource can be used to learn more about important health topics linked to AMR, through the medium of Welsh.  Throughout the teacher sections you will find

  • detailed lesson plans
  • fun student worksheets
  • extension activities
  • animations
  • Activity demonstrations
  • PowerPoint presentations to assist with the more difficult aspects of microbiology.

All activities and plans have been designed to complement the National Curriculum. The student pages complement the teacher resources by providing online games, revision pages and lots more to continue the learning experience at home.

The course, which is accredited by the Royal College of Pathologists provides complete autonomy around the learning as it can be completed in your own time.  Once enrolled on the course, you are expected to compete the course within 3 weeks, this works out on average as 2 hours study per week.

As a Welsh language educator you have the opportunity to educate and empower the next generation about one of the biggest health threats we face globally – antimicrobial resistance.
