16th January 2023

In just a few weeks’ time, on the 1 & 2 February, we will be holding ACC2023 – our annual Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Conference. Jointly organised by BSAC and GARDP in collaboration with Africa CDC and ReAct Africa, and taking place entirely online to ensure accessibility, it’s shaping up to be an unmissable event! In this short post, European Medical & Scientific Affairs Specialist and BSAC Honorary Treasurer, Christopher Longshaw, looks ahead to what we can expect this year…

Happy New Year. It’s January 2023 and I’m really looking forward to my first scientific meeting of the New Year: the Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Conference 2023. Unlike many similar meetings focusing on the antimicrobial development pathway, ACC really tries hard to attract contributors and delegates from outside of the usual geography of Western Europe and the USA and so gains valuable insights from Low- and Middle-Income Countries, where antibiotic resistance is often most prevalent and the need for new therapeutic options is greatest. For 2023, the spotlight is on Africa and I’m sure there will be some fascinating perspectives shared by the faculty, which includes speakers from academia, small & medium-sized enterprises, and the pharmaceutical industry, as well as public health and hospital physicians. I look forward to seeing you online and joining in the discussion!
